What:

Barry University is committed to providing opportunities for all students to receive a  personalized, values-based education to prepare them for the workforce. As part of that commitment, the University will host the 2023 5k/8k Nun Run, an annual run/walk that raises money for scholarships for students to continue their education at Barry and achieve their dreams. Every year, more than half of Barry students report a deficit between $2,500 and $5,000 in covering their expenses. These might seem like small amounts, but for students who come from homes where family income is less than $50,000, any amount can make the difference between staying at Barry and having to drop out.  In honor of Barry’s founders, the Adrian Dominican Sisters, runners are encouraged to wear a nun’s habit as they race through Barry’s main campus and the Miami Shores neighborhood. The race will  bring the campus and the community together, while promoting health and wellness. The event is certified in accordance with USA Track & Field.

Who:

The Nun Run 5K and 8K is open to all age groups and abilities, including children and families. The Nun Run 8K course is ideal for high school athletes who want to practice at a collegiate length. Results and standings will be monitored with real-time chip tracking technology from Split Second Timing. Awards will be given by Barry University President Mike Allen to the top finishers. However, all participants will receive medals. President Allen will also be running.   Our post-race Cool-Down Event and Awards Presentation will have food, drinks, booths, and entertainment for everyone. Invasive Species Brewing will return to The Beer Garden with free beer for 21 and over.

When:

8:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 21 at Barry University’s main campus located at 11300 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami Shores, FL  33161. See campus map. Beginning on campus, the course will wind through the leafy streets of Miami Shores, and end back at Barry. Here’s how to register: https://www.barry.edu/en/nun-run
