Congressman Mike Haridopolos of Florida’s 8th Congressional District voted in favor of H.R. 5371, a bipartisan continuing resolution that brings an end to the six-week government shutdown. The legislation now awaits President Trump’s signature.
“I once again voted to reopen the government because that’s what the American people expect and deserve,” said Congressman Haridopolos. “I’m glad that after subjecting American families to hardship for over a month, Senate Democrats finally decided to end their self-serving protest against President Trump and allow the government to reopen. Tonight’s vote will allow us to finally pay our men and women in the military, restore critical government services, alleviate flight delays, and allow for SNAP benefits to be received.”
The bill maintains government funding at current levels through January 30, 2026. It also provides full-year appropriations for programs such as SNAP food assistance, veterans’ benefits, and military construction. In addition, it guarantees back pay for furloughed federal workers and restores services including air traffic control and national park operations.
Haridopolos criticized Senate Democrats for delaying payments to military families, air traffic controllers, and federal employees during the shutdown. “For over a month, Senate Democrats held up paychecks for military families, air traffic controllers, and federal workers, using them as political leverage,” he said. “Even tonight, Democrats in the House voted to keep the government closed, prolonging the hardship that millions of Americans are facing. This shutdown was never about serious policy negotiations; it was a power ploy that fortunately failed.”
During the shutdown period, Haridopolos and his staff continued working without pay on behalf of constituents in Florida’s Space and Treasure Coasts. His office assisted more than 180 residents and helped secure over $450,000 in federal benefits for local families. Residents in Brevard, Indian River, and Orange Counties who are still experiencing delays with federal services are encouraged to contact his office for support.
