U.S. Congressman Mike Haridopolos said on Apr. 29 that the Brevard County School District is preparing students for real-world success by connecting classroom learning to future careers.

Haridopolos published an op-ed in Florida Today, emphasizing the importance of hands-on experience for students in Brevard County. He said that programs in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as career and technical education, are helping students explore fields such as aviation, engineering, and skilled trades.

According to Haridopolos, visits to several local schools—including Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School, Titusville High School, Merritt Island High School, DeLaura Middle School, and Jefferson Middle School—showed how students are working on projects related to aerospace, engineering, digital media, and skilled trades. These efforts align education with workforce needs in the region.

The congressman also pointed out that more than 500 fifth-grade students completed Boeing’s Destination Moon STEM Design Challenge during the year. This program involved coding, circuits, robotics, Minecraft activities, and engineering design focused on developing solutions for lunar missions.

In addition to academic achievements in STEM fields and skilled trades training programs at these schools—which reflect the Space Coast’s role as a center of innovation—Haridopolos highlighted Brevard County’s 2026 enlistment ceremony recognizing students who have committed to military service.

“Here on the Space Coast, the pipeline from classroom to career, from student to service member, from dreamer to doer is alive and well. And thanks to the leadership of the Brevard County School Board it is only getting stronger,” said Congressman Haridopolos. “The next generation of America is not just learning about the future; they are preparing to lead it.”
