Innovation: 3 patents granted in Melbourne in week ending Aug. 8

Patent 10

There were three patents granted in Melbourne in the week ending Aug. 8, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is unchanged from the week before. Patents included a rotating energy storage apparatus and method of imparting rotational motion of a vessel containing the same.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 8 belonged to Florida Institute of Technology, Inc. who filed in April 20, 2018.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
