With the support of Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) the House passed legislation to protect consumer choice in purchasing future gasoline powered automobiles. The Choice in Automobile Retail Sales Act, or CARS Act, prohibits the Biden Administration from implementing its aggressive emission standards for light and medium-duty vehicles that limit consumer choice by requiring over two-thirds of all new vehicles to be electric by 2032.

“Purchasing an electric vehicle is still very much out of reach for many Americans who depend on their cars and trucks for family life, work, and recreational enjoyment. This bill preserves the freedom of consumers to purchase vehicles that best meets their needs and I’m pleased to see it pass with bipartisan support,” said Congressman Posey.

In April 2023, the EPA announced the proposed rule to set new stringent vehicle emissions standards. Last week almost 4000 car dealers wrote to the administration asking them to reconsider the rule as citing a lack of demand from consumers. Posey also expressed serious concern that the rule, if left in place, will make the United States dependent on China for our energy and transportation needs.

“While the U.S. has an abundance of fossil fuels, China has cornered the market on EV batteries production. The EPA’s rule requires the United States to lock-off our energy reserves and become dependent on the CCP, a very dangerous position to leave our nation.”
