In a recent development, Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) has thrown his weight behind the passing of the Laken Riley Act, a legislative move aimed at addressing issues related to criminal illegal aliens and enhancing states' enforcement of immigration laws. The bill, officially known as H.R. 7511, garnered bipartisan support in the House with a vote of 251-170.

Expressing his concerns, Congressman Posey emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "The continued border chaos created by the Biden Administration’s policies has proven deadly to innocent Americans across our country and it must end." He further highlighted the key provisions of the legislation, noting, "This legislation requires criminal illegal aliens to be detained and taken into custody and allows for states to sue the Department of Homeland Security and force it to do its job when it fails to act."

Notably, Congressman Posey had previously collaborated with the Florida Attorney General to introduce a similar bill, underscoring the importance of empowering state officials to enforce immigration laws in the face of federal inaction. He reiterated his stance on the matter, asserting, "The open border also poses a great risk to our national security and it’s a dereliction of duty to stand by and watch the situation deteriorate."

The passage of the Laken Riley Act reflects a concerted effort to address the challenges posed by illegal immigration and bolster enforcement measures at the state level. As discussions surrounding immigration policies continue, Congressman Posey's advocacy for stringent measures underscores the gravity of the issue at hand.
